Today I am wearing a classic fall outfit with all its iconic elements. First the Fair Isle sweater screams late fall, early winter, duffle coat as well, and of course the socks-ankle boots combination. I am so fond of this latter one. As you can see I am still doing bare legs, that is so typical me it comes from when I was a kid, most of my classmates went to school with tights and some few did socks with their uniform all year round. I was of the second group. I hated tights as a little girl I found them so uncomfortable I couldn’t do them until I was an early teen and so far even though I do wear them I try to avoid them as much as possible. Since I am pretty numb in my legs I don’t really need them until winter so I still have a few weeks happily mastering the art of “bare legging”.
This is the first outfit post I do with these booties I got last year around this same time with my friend Omar, I love them so much they are the Patti boots by Saint Laurent named after Patti Smith. The moment they came out I knew I had to have them this is the classic lace up ankle boot style that never ever goes out of style, a great investment for years and years to come.

El look de hoy es un clásico conjunto otoñal con variados elementos muy propios de otoño. Primero tenemos el jersey en diseño Fair Isle un icono de finales de otoño principios de invierno. Luego por supuesto tenemos la trenca muy propia de este tiempo también y para finalizar no hay nada que represente más el otoño para mi que la combinación de botines con calcetines para mi. Esta combinación me encanta. Es algo bastante común en mi seguir hasta bien entrado el invierno con calcetines en vez de medias es algo que no consigo incluir con facilidad en mi conjuntos invernales, en muchos casos siento que desfavorecen un atuendo aunque en muchos casos si reconozco que lo potencian. Creo que mi gusto por las piernas descubiertas en pleno invierno me viene de mi época de colegio. De niña me incomodaban muchísimo las medias así que prefería la opción calcetín y como en un comienzo el pantalón no estaba permitido en el uniforme me pasé inviernos completos con las piernas descubiertas. Creo que al cabo de un tiempo me volví inmune al frío en esta zona de mi cuerpo, algo que se mantiene hasta el día de hoy.
Este es el primer conjunto que subo con estos botines que compré hace un justo un año con mi amigo Omar. Me encantan, es el modelo Patti de Saint Laurent, llamado así porque están inspirados por la fantástica Patti Smith. El segundo en que las vi por primera vez en Los Angeles supe que tenían que ser mias, y meses después decidí comprarlas. Son una perfecta inversion ya que son un modelo clásico que nunca esta o deja de estar de moda, y van estupendamente combinados con cualquier prenda lo que las hace aún mejores.

This fall outfit is very “me” obviously they all are, but this one in particular includes all of my staples all of which have been with me for a long, long time. Probably the eldest of them is my footwear, I’ve had my Chanel flats for almost five years, my top and coat for over three years, sunglasses I can’t even remember how old they are and my bag and jeans are about one and a half, so there you go, and outfit made of all beautiful, timeless classic items, none of which are new. I think it is so important to remember you don’t need to buy anything new to make a nice outfit that works, a wonderful option will always be to shop in our own closet, re-discovering and re-inventing our basics in a way that we can wear them again and again, making them look like new, and making us fall in love with them all over again. To me thats the secret of smart shopping, finding garments that we will want to wear after five or more years with the same excitement as the day we bought them. And if you think this concept applies to more than just clothes doesn’t it? While I was writing it I was thinking it could easily be about a car, a house, or even a boyfriend!

Este conjunto tan otoñal es muy “yo”, obviamente todos lo son pero este en particular incluye todas mis prendas iconicas las cuales tengo desde hace mucho tiempo. Las mas antiguas probablemente sean mis bailarinas negras que tienen casi cinco años, mi camiseta y mi abrigo mas de tres, las gafas ya ni me acuerdo y los vaqueros y el bolso año y medio. Como veis un conjunto hecho de prendas bastante antiguas básicas y a temporales pero esto no les quita encanto. Es muy importante recordar que no necesitamos ropa nueva para crear un gran conjunto, una estupenda opción es irnos de compras en nuestro propio armario re-descubriendo y re-inventando nuestros básicos de forma que podamos usarlos una y otra vez haciendo que parezcan nuevos y haciendo también que nos volvamos a enamorar de ellos. Para mi este es el secreto de una compra inteligente, encontrar prendas que queramos usar después de cinco o más años con las mismas ganas que el día que las compramos. Pensándolo bien, este concepto no solo nos sirve para la ropa, se aplica a todo, un coche, una casa o incluso en el ámbito personal!

Now that cold weather is definitely here, its time to take our coats out, and I do it gradually. I don’t want to jump straight to thick coats or parkas because then what do I have left to wear when the real cold comes? Nothing. So for now this is the smartest choice. Now I love trench coats so I am always happy to wear mine, one of my most versatile, classic, timeless pieces and a must have in everyones wardrobe.
I wear black often, in fact I have lot’s of versions of black garments, and for today I chose my longest The Kooples trousers (if you take attention to details you’ll see I have two lengths of very similar trousers by the same brand) and paired it with my Converse sneakers because well I was feeling more casual and craving comfy. To finish my outfit my old and very worn and loved Prada bag.

Ahora que el frío ha llegado en definitiva, es tiempo de abrigos y yo intento ir poco a poco. No quiero empezar tan pronto con abrigos gruesos o parkas porque luego que me quedaría para invierno? Nada. Con este tiempo la elección mas acertada es sin duda un trench, es una prenda que me encanta y una de las más versátiles, clásicas y atemporales que existen, por supuesto un básico imprescindible para todos.
Como habréis podido observar voy de negro muy a menudo, de hecho tengo varias versiones en negro de la misma prenda en diferentes cortes, materiales, etc. Hoy llevo la versión mas larga de pantalón negro (tengo dos pares casi iguales en dos largos distintos uno tobillero y el otro de largo tradicional. Estos son los segundos. Me decante por unas zapatillas como calzado ya que me apetecía darle un toque mas informal al conjunto y por supuesto ir cómoda. Para el toque final mi adorado (y muy usado) bolso de Prada.

These pictures are from last week, when it was still so sunny with a weather more in the line of spring than fall. I am delighted to have just recently started taking out my coats, because even if I love layers I do get bored from cold weather clothes easily. The in between mild weather clothes such as the ones i’m wearing here, to me are the best.
I am wearing one of my favorite shirts, it is a tuxedo-like bright white shirt. Originally this shirt was much longer at the back than up front, but I am not much of a fan of that style so I ended up having it altered and now the difference is subtle, just how I like it. I was so annoyed when that trend was all over the place, it seemed you could not even get a basic dress without it being longer at the back, in my opinion very unflattering. I think at the end of the day we must not settle (of course this apply to life in general) for something we don’t like, we can just get a good seamstress and change whatever it is we want and that way not only will we transform garments to fit our style but we are also creating something unique, that even if more people bought, it will not be the same.

Estas fotos son de la semana pasada cuando aun teníamos buen tiempo mas propio de primavera que de otoño. Estoy encantada por este pasado mes de Octubre tan caluroso que nos permitiese retrasar el usar abrigos, ya que aunque me encantan las capas, tiendo a aburrirme fácilmente de la ropa de invierno. La ropa para entretiempo como la que llevo en estas fotos, a mi parecer es la mejor.
Hoy llevo una de mis camisas favoritas, de estilo esmoquin en color blanco. Originalmente esta camisa era mucho mas larga por detrás que por delante pero como nunca me ha gustado mucho ese estilo de prendas acabé por mandarla a arreglar y ahora la diferencia es sutil justo como pretendía. La verdad es que era bastante desagradable cuando esa tendencia fue relevante solo hace unos años, era casi imposible encontrar un buen vestido básico que no llevase ese corte, que en mi opinion es desfavorecedor. Creo que al final la mejor opción cuando algo nos gusta pero no nos encanta es no conformarse con ella, es tan fácil llevarla a nuestro terreno, solo es cosa de encontrar una buena costurera/modista/sastre que nos arregle la prenda a nuestro gusto y de esta forma no solo arreglamos los detalles si no que creamos una prenda única ya que por mucho que mas gente la tenga, ya no será igual.
