Another beach outfit! I went to spend last weekend again to Viña.
This is one of those outfits I ended up wearing by mistake. I was wearing the same from the waist up with denim shorts, but for a two hour drive shorts seemed rather uncomfortable so I decided to change, and first thing I saw was this skirt. After I put it on, I loved the outfit so much I decided to stay in it, and well…that’s the story.

Otro conjunto de playa! Nuevamente pasé el fin de semana en Viña.
Este es uno de esos conjuntos que acabe usando por casualidad. Realmente llevaba lo que veis en la foto de cintura para arriba y abajo unos shorts vaqueros. Para un viaje de dos horas en coche la verdad no era lo mas cómodo así que decidí cambiarme y lo primero que pillé fue esta falda, me la puse y al verla me gusto tanto, que con ella me quedé.

Another of my striped dresses I brought to this trip, yeah three, might seem too much for some, but for me it’s reasonable. I’m thinking of keeping it together this spring and summer, and buy other patterns…just to prove myself i’m not obsessed. Although i’m not a pattern person, once in a while, something I like could come up, and I better take it, because it does not happen often.
Maybe you can’t tell from my pictures, but I’m a little sad, I don’t want to leave summer, I don’t want to leave Chile and by no means I want to leave all the people here. So…hopefully, hopefully, I can return soon.

Otro de mis vestidos a rayas, otro que me acompaña en este viaje, si tres, reíros, es mucho para la mayoría, para mi es razonable. Estoy pensando seriamente como una resolución de este año y con especial a esta primavera y verano contenerme y no comprar ningún vestido a rayas, en vez intentarlo con algún otro estampado. No soy muy de estampados así que va ser complicado…pero de haber alguno que me guste, no lo dejaré pasar ya que la verdad no es frecuente que me guste algo estampado.
Quizás no se note en las fotos, pero la verdad estoy triste, no tengo ganas de dejar el verano, no tengo ganas de dejar Chile y menos tengo ganas de dejar a la gente de aquí. Así que ya estoy viendo cuando podré volver, ojalá sea muy pronto.

Some of my favorite denim garments ever made come from Stella McCartney’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection. I am lucky enough to own two garments from this collection, one of which is the skirt I am wearing here.
Now this wonderful piece has been recreated many times, I first saw one last year by Topshop, and this year we have a very similar one by Alexa Chung for AG Denim collection. To be honest I am a little disappointed each time this happens, a wonderful garment being reproduced over and over again by so many labels most people won’t know who started it. I think of how refreshing it would be to have different basic, classic garments, every season instead of more almost identical versions of the same thing. Of course there is nothing we can do, this is a business on top of all the creative aspects, but on the positive side it could be worse. At least in this case it is a beautiful classic piece being re-made instead of an ugly one.

A black day. Yes, all black summer outfits rock! They are by far the best option, (specially for pale skin people) I bet some of you didn’t know why. This I saw on the news yesterday, here in Santiago, but I was also taught this in my textiles class at uni.
We all know how in summer sun is a real threat for our skin. Too much sun exposure can cause premature aging to start with an a whole serious of diseases. Dark clothing such as charcoal, navy and the darkest of them all black absorb UV rays and therefore have a hard time penetrating your skin causing damage. Light colored clothing such as white and pastel colors go through your clothing and reach your skin quite easy producing damage that you can’t really see, but with time will show. Light-skinned people (such as myself) have more risk of being damaged by UV radiation, something I have struggled with my whole life, one more reason for not loving summer. So bottom line is? Think again before you buy too many white clothing for summer, specially if you have pale skin, black is a better option.

Un día de negro. Si, los conjuntos negros para verano molan más y ahora compartiré el porque. Imagino que no todos estaréis al tanto de esto, aunque bien es de bastante sentido común no a todo el mundo le interesa. Lo vi ayer por la televisión aquí en Santiago, pero también me lo enseñaron en mi asignatura de tejidos en la universidad.
Todos sabemos como el sol especialmente en verano es dañino para nuestra piel. Estar muy expuestos al sol causa envejecimiento prematuro y un sin fin de enfermedades a la piel. La ropa oscura como gris, navy y negro absorben los rayos UVA y de esa forma hacen mas difícil que penetren nuestra piel. La ropa en colores claros como el blanco o los pasteles hace que los rayos UVA atraviesen nuestra ropa y penetren la piel con facilidad causando daños que son invisibles por mucho tiempo pero acaban por manifestarse. Las personas con tonos de piel claros (como es mi caso) tienen mayor riesgo a los daños de los rayos UVA, algo con lo que he batallado toda mi vida, una razón más por la que no me gusta el verano. A lo que quiero llegar es? Pensar bien antes de darlo todo con el color blanco en verano, especialmente aquellos individuos de piel pálida, ya que sin duda el negro es una mejor opción.
