Officially fall has arrived, but in reality temperatures are still very high here, so there is no other option but to keep wearing summer clothes. Here I am in Riaza once again because we have been going almost every weekend, making the most of the last few days of good weather. Wearing my flared frayed charcoal jeans, I wear them a lot when we go to the countryside cause they are my least expensive pair of jeans and I really don’t mind that much if something happens to them. Since we do a lot of outdoors activities there is a big chance they could get dirty, and these are very easy to wash. These have been labeled by me as my “countryside jeans” and they are always my best option here. I paired them with a loose sleeveless top perfect for these hot days, and for comfort my ballet flats.

HOLIDAYS 2014/2015: OUTFIT 11

I went to spend the weekend at Viña del Mar, it’s one of the most important cities in Chile located 1,5/2 hours away from Santiago and the main advantage here of course is the sea! Living in a capital city without sea I am always thankful for every time I get to see and spend some days next to the ocean even if I have to travel abroad to do so. So of course I was delighted, since my trip to Croatia almost half a year ago, that I last experienced the joy of breathing fresh sea breeze!

The climate is very average most of the year, lots of rain in winter but not very cold and a mild temperature in summer (not like hot Santiago) and the best part (at least for me) is that it tends to be very cloudy year round, specially in summer which is something I love. This changes the whole outfit system when compared to Santiago at the same time of the year. I have hardly worn pants there while in Viña almost everyday at least for the evening it’s the best option!

Now I only brought two pair of trousers and the ones you see me wearing are not one of them, and they are not new either…so I bet you are wondering, so where the hell do they come from? Well actually they are an old, and by old I mean VERY OLD pair of mine from 2006 I got at Topshop and that my mom had saved with the old clothes. While we were preparing to donate some of our old stuff to charity I came across this one, and I instantly recognized it! Originally it had another cut (remember skinny jeans from that era?) we are talking almost ten years ago, they were longer, less skinny, low cut and would bunch up at the ankle, a lot! When I tried these I loved everything about them, even the quality is far better than what you find now in the same store, but the one issue was the ankle area for me. Not very nice…so instead of doing what I usually do and that is have them hemmed is to cut them, for a different look. Studying fashion design I used to have a phase where I cut all my clothes to alter them so trust me I have the habit in me, and I was able to do this in a way that the look was just what I looked for. Now I can wear them all over again but with a totally different style. So my point is? Always consider giving your garments, basic ones specially a new life. There are always options and it is not as complicated as you might think!

The first days of fall are never really cold, so the weather has been perfect to wear absolutely anything. I love this type of weather because it allows all the combinations possible: sandals with trench, sneakers with mini skirts, sleeveless shirt with boots, anything you want will look good.

I love all those crazy garment combinations that make no sense, it bores me to death wearing always the same, in summer I never wear pants because they bother me terribly. In winter I hardly wear skirts, because I like wearing them without tights, so i’m in trousers 90% of the time. In fall and spring though, it’s so much more spontaneous, alternating all types of garments is the most fun, and it fills me with inspiration.

ONE GARMENT, FOUR WAYS: TOPSHOP BLACK DUNGAREES

If you read my post about “How I wear: LBD Little Black Dress” you will remember how I stated how I will start to do a how I wear/one garment four ways section on my blog. As many of you know, I am a big fan of dungarees and anything really that can be worn with something underneath, it multiplies the different ways it can be worn and therefore the number of times you can wear it.

Since a lot of you having be asking about this I am today posting three different ways of wearing black dungarees (in mild weather).

The dungarees in question are by Topshop and I got them last January while in South America, most specifically in Santiago, Chile. I remember they were the only pair in the store and I was kind of doubting if I should get them or not, because they were a little big on me, and I was concerned about the quality. I was messaging my friend Omar back in Madrid and he was telling me, don’t get them, please don’t get them. I did not get them, since I had to return to the store in a few days I decided to play with fate and see what happened. If I came back and they were still there they were meant to be mine, if I returned and they were gone, then well, let them be gone. I waited a few days and I went back to the store this time with my mom and they still had them…so I tried them, mom loved it, and so I got them.

It was a great purchase because I wear them a lot…a whole big lot. And while Omar’s advice is hardly ever wrong, this time it was.

As you can see there are various ways to wearing dungarees, and wear it more on the casual side with sneakers or a little bit more classic with flats, they work just as fine. So…if you are thinking on getting your own pair…PLEASE DO! You won’t regret it.
